Municipal Court

The Municipal Court of Châteauguay assumes court administration related to municipal, provincial and federal laws for the districts of Châteauguay, Mercier, Léry, Beauharnois and St. Isidore.

The responsibilities consist of:

- Issue warrants, subpoenas and orders;

- Receive oaths;

- Issue summons, warrant of arrest and search warrant;

- Recover fines

- Ensure the sitting of the Court;

- Execute the judgments (Fines recovery);

- Act as a liaison between the prosecutors, the police force, the judicial services and the treasury division;

- Plan and coordinate the organisation of the Court according to the laws and to the agreements passed with the City of Mercier, Léry, Beauharnois and St.Isidore.

The Municipal Court usually sits on Tuesday or Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is presided by a judge appointed by (Quebec Department of Justice) Ministère de la justice du Québec.
