Watering ban lifted in Châteauguay

Thursday, 30 July, 2020

Thanks to the rain that has fallen in recent days, Ville de Châteauguay is announcing the end of the watering ban that has been in effect since June 16.

Use of a watering system with oscillating water sprinklers or soaker hoses for lawns, flowers, gardens and kitchen gardens is once again permitted, in compliance with the watering by-law, that is, only between 9 p.m. and midnight, on even dates for even street addresses and on odd dates for odd street addresses. Manual watering, including with a hose, is also allowed.

For automatic watering systems, the watering time is only between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Residents are also permitted to fill pools on the usual schedule, that is, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and wash cars, as long as water is used responsibly.

Although the ban has been lifted, the City recommends that residents use water from a rain recovery receptacle to water flowers and landscaping arrangements. This is a great initiative to save on drinking water and avoid the overuse of water for non-essential purposes.

Finally, residents who wish to install new sod on their property can do so by applying for a (free) 10-day permit by contacting the Division inspection et permis at 450-698-3260, and following the usual instructions.

Monitoring will continue over the entire territory to ensure that the watering schedules are upheld. Residents who do not comply may be ticketed.
