Launch of the summer program: A host of activities and events offered to Châteauguay citizens this summer!

Published on 17 June 2022

Through his first official video clip, filmed at the Nautical Centre, Mayor Éric Allard enthusiastically launched and announced Châteauguay’s 2022 summer program.

Water Sports Figure Prominently

Starting Saturday, June 18, the Centre nautique de Châteauguay, including the Pointe Nautique facilities, opens its doors to the public. Both sites will be open every day from 10 a.m. to sunset. This day also marks the start of the activities of the Châteauguay-Lachine river shuttle, which can be taken from île Saint-Bernard. To get to this sector, we strongly recommended using the free D’Youville – île Saint-Bernard bus service, which is available from the satellite parking lot located at 125 rue Notre-Dame Nord.

Summer Reading Club

June 18 also marks the beginning of the Summer Reading Club, which will kick off on Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bibliothèque Raymond-Laberge. For the entire summer season, under the “Mythical and Legendary” theme, young people are invited to attend a variety of workshops and possibly win one of many participation prizes.

Le Ouaouaron Comedy Cabaret

Every Friday from July 8 to 29, the Pavillon de l’île will host big-name comedians for the Le Ouaouaron Comedy Cabaret, whose casual concept is back, to our great delight, thanks to the easing of health measures. The line-up this summer features Jean-Claude Gélinas (July 8), the duo Dominic and Martin (July 15), Jean-François Mercier (July 22) and Pierre-Luc Pomerleau (July 29).

Major Events

From June 23 to 26, indulge in our delicious national dish – poutine – with the return of the Great Poutinefest at H.S. Billings Park. For Québec’s National Holiday, on Friday, June 24, the famous singer Daniel Boucher will perform on stage at 5. p.m.

A week later, on Friday, July 1, the Agora will host the Canada Day festivities. The following day, July 2, the Grand Orchestre de Châteauguay will celebrate its 40th anniversary by offering a free outdoor concert, Pop-rock Symphonie, at the Agora at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10, we’ll celebrate the Nautical Festival of Châteauguay at the Nautical Centre and Pointe Nautique. Special activities, music and surprises will be yours to enjoy! On Sunday, July 24, it will be île Saint-Bernard’s turn to host a free outdoor classical music concert, with the performance of the trio Tango Boréal, in collaboration with Les Promotions du Grand Châteauguay.

The month of August won’t disappoint: after the construction holidays, on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14, the Jerk Festival will be back at the Agora to delight us with its traditional Caribbean culinary specialties. Then, on Sunday, August 21, THE flagship summer event is back after two years of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic: the Grand Family Festival returns to Billings Park for a festive afternoon for the whole family. At 4:30 p.m. on the main stage, you won’t want to miss singer Ludovick Bourgeois’s performance. Lastly, the Écomarché de l’île is also back on île Saint-Bernard on the weekend of August 27 and 28. Look for your favourite artisan producers in this beautiful setting!

For all these events, admission to the site is free. However, there are fees for certain activities, such as food booths.

Even More Activities for the Whole Family!

Apart from the many major events organized at central locations in Châteauguay this summer, many other activities will be held around the city to entertain everyone in the family: outdoor shows by Marilyn Léonard, followed by Pelch (Thursday, July 21, parc Mercier), the Salon des Saveurs (Saturday, July 23, the Agora), outdoor film screenings (Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6, parc Mercier), outdoor storytelling and the Bibliobus (which stops at several parks in Châteauguay), as well as dancing and Zumba outdoors (Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Agora).

But the list of activities on our summer program doesn’t stop there! For more information or for the complete list, refer to our summer guide On the move or visit our website at ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en.
