Demolition of 40 rue de la Bergerie: Châteauguay has requested an external report before authorizing work
Published on 24 February 2021
At a special meeting held on Tuesday, February 23, the members of the municipal council unanimously adopted a motion requesting an external engineering report, co-signed by an independent architect, to determine the condition of the building at 40 rue de la Bergerie.
The adoption of this motion has resulted in the suspension of the demotion work planned at this site.
Although all procedures were respected by the municipal administration when issuing the initial mandate to assess the building and during the analysis of the real estate project submitted for 40 rue de la Bergerie, it has come to light that there is a conflict of interest between the report signatory and the project promoter. For the sake of transparency, Châteauguay has consequently taken the decision to temporarily suspend the work to assign the assessment mandate to an external firm.
At the same time, the administration intends to review some of its practices with the aim of facilitating information exchanges between several departments and making improvements to the mandate issuance process and assessment of submitted projects, in order to avoid such situations in the future.
