Watering ban in effect in Châteauguay
Published on 11 June 2021
Given the high demand for water on its territory and to ensure adequate water reserves, the City has no choice but to temporarily ban outdoor watering again until further notice.
This ban will immediately come into force and will help avoid the overconsumption of water and protect our facilities during this period which has seen daily consumption double in recent days. The City is therefore encouraging everyone to ration use of water to essential purposes only.
However, watering gardens, flowers and kitchen gardens by hand is still allowed at all times. The City recommends using water from rainwater collection tanks to water flowers and landscapes. This is a great initiative to save on drinking water.
The use of any watering system (manual, automatic, electronic or underground) for lawns and cleaning the outside of houses is strictly banned until further notice. No permit to water newly laid sod will be issued from Friday, June 11. Only sod laid before June 11, with proof of purchase, may be watered during times usually authorized by the by-laws. Filling pools with water from the water system is not authorized. Ville de Châteauguay wishes to remind all residents that using a hydrant on its water system is banned at all times. If residents observe this type of conduct, please report it to 450 698-3150.
Monitoring will continue over the entire territory to ensure that the watering ban is upheld. People who do not comply will be ticketed.
To comply to this measure, please note that all water parks will be closed as well.
As soon as the situation allows, residents will be informed and encouraged to scrupulously uphold watering by-laws.
