Opening of the new ecocentre on June 29

The new ecocentre of Châteauguay will be operational as of Wednesday, June 29. Located at 224 boulevard Industriel, it is ready to welcome the citizens of Châteauguay who wish to dispose of certain waste materials. All the details about the conditions for admission, as well as the materials accepted, are available on this page.

An ecocentre is available to residents to collect materials that are not accepted for household waste collection. We collect: bulky waste, construction and demolition materials, hazardous waste, soil, branches, home appliances, etc.

  • The Ecocentre of Châteauguay will be in operation as of Wednesday, June 29, according to the following schedule

    • Wednesday, June 29: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Thursday, June 30: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Exceptionally, Friday, July 1st : 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    As of Saturday, July 2, the Ecocentre will be open according to the summer schedule.

    Summer season:
    April 15 to November 15

    Monday to Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Sunday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Winter season:
    November 16 to April 14

    Monday to Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Sunday: Closed

    Holidays

    Please note that the Ecocentre will be closed on the following holidays:

    • New Year’s: January 1st and 2nd
    • Easter: Sunday, April 9
    • Quebec National Holiday: June 24th
    • Canada Day: July 1st (exceptionally open on July 1st 2022)
    • Labour Day: September 5
    • Christmas: December 25 and 26
  • This free service is strictly reserved for the use of Ville de Châteauguay residents, as well as non-profit organizations (NPOs) certified by the City. To have access to the ecocentre, the citizens of Châteauguay must present a proof of residence when they arrive at the reception desk of the ecocenter.

    Citizens may bring up to 3 cubic metres of material per address and per visit, for a maximum of 15 cubic metres per year.

    However, after five visits, a fee of $80 plus tax will apply, even if the maximum volume of 15 cubic metres has not been reached.

  • The accepted methods of payment are:

    • INTERAC;
    • Credit card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express).

    Cash payments are not accepted.

Answers to your questions

A proof of residence is mandatory and will be required at the entrance of the ecocentre of Châteauguay.

  • Dry materials

    • Rock, concrete, brick, asphalt, ceramic, paving stones, gypsum, pvc, doors and windows, asphalt shingles, toilets, sinks, baths;

    Recyclable materials

    • Paper, cardboard, glass and plastic;

    Metals

    • Iron, small body parts, aluminum, electrical wires, metal baths, small engines and power tools from which oil and gas have been removed, microwave ovens (without its plate), ovens, washer-dryers, etc;

    Wood

    • Painted wood, treated and untreated wood, plywood, virgin wood, melamine, MDF, wooden furniture, etc;

    Household hazardous waste (HHW)

    • Propane, paints, dyes, batteries, car batteries, aerosols, pesticides, solvents, motor oil and filters, swimming pool products, fertilizers, cleaning products, joint cement, light bulbs with mercury, neon, fire extinguishers, etc.

    Other materials accepted

    • Uncontaminated soil (soil characterization certification);
    • Computer and  technology equipment;
    • Green waste: branches, natural Christmas trees, shrubs, leaves, grass, etc;
    • Bicycle and car tires without rims
    • Mixed materials: residual materials that do not fit into any specific sorting category and that do not have an outlet in the reuse, recycling and recovery markets

    • Refrigeration appliances (refrigerators, freezers, wine cellars, water machines, portable air conditioners).
    • Contaminated soil and sand: oil-soaked soil and sand and sludge;
    • Asbestos;
    • Creosote-treated, tarred or pesticide-containing wood;
    • Cyanide;
    • Trunks, stumps;
    • Exotic invasive plant species;
    • Food residues and domestic waste;
    • Explosive materials: explosives, explosive weapons, dynamite, flares, fireworks, bullets and grenades;
    • Biomedical and animal waste: pathological waste, dead animals;
    • Any residual material resulting from commercial, industrial and institutional activities (processing, treatment, assembly and others);
    • Radioactive waste;
    • PCBs or waste containing PCBs;
    • Mineral wool and rigid insulation.

  • Bringing your materials to an ecocentre is an important effort as most items can enjoy a new life. In general, slightly more than 80% of materials brought to ecocentres can be recycled.
