Backwater valves

A backwater valve, sometimes called a sewer backup valve, is a secure way to avoid sewer backups. This is why a city by-law obliges all homeowners to install backwater valves in their homes, regardless of the year of construction. A backwater valve must be installed on the evacuation pipe of any plumbing device or group in the basement of a building, such as a toilet, sink, shower, washing machine, floor drain, etc.

The valves must also be accessible at all times and kept in good working order. To ensure this, regular inspection is required.
