The Châteauguay joint municipal court is governed by the Act Respecting Municipal Courts. It is accessible to citizens and offers effective local justice. It has jurisdiction over the territories of Châteauguay, Léry, Beauharnois and Saint-Isidore.
The municipal court has competence in the municipalities it serves on civil, criminal and penal matters and hears cases on the following matters:
- Offences under the municipal by-laws of the cities it serves concerning:
- Parking and traffic
- Fire prevention
- Zoning
- Building maintenance
- Public health and cleanliness
- Order and public peace, etc.
- Offences under the laws of Québec, including:
- Claims of the municipality under the Civil Code of Québec concerning:
- Municipal taxes
- Tariff by-laws of the municipalities served
- Summary convictions under Part XXVII of the Criminal Code.
The municipal court generally sits on Tuesday or Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. or on both days. It is presided over by a judge appointed by the Minister of Justice of Québec

If you have an active case at the Châteauguay joint municipal court, please keep us informed of any change of address or phone number so we can contact you at every step of your case. A change of address at the SAAQ is not enough, since we are two separate organizations.
Otherwise, you may not receive important correspondence, resulting in additional consequences that may be legal, financial or both.
