Industriel Boulevard Revitalization: First Phase of the Work Will Definitely Take Place in 2019

In a special City Council meeting held on Wednesday, March 20, the elected officials voted by a majority in favour of waiving the condition of obtaining a grant in order to move ahead with awarding the contract for the revitalization of Industriel Boulevard.

The work which should take several months could begin this summer. This boulevard, which is the primary gateway into the City from Highway 30 West and the main access road for businesses in the industrial park, has been in a dreadful state for many years.

“I would like to reiterate that the failure to begin reconstruction work would result in a major prejudice, not only for the industrial park, but also for the rest of the City. It is an increasingly important road for us. The development of the industrial park absolutely requires these improvements,” explained Pierre-Paul Routhier, Mayor of Châteauguay. “We can no longer wait and continue to be at the mercy of unreasonable delays in receiving the government’s answer, which I find very disappointing.”

The Mayor and the municipal administration intend to pursue their efforts to receive a grant and will continue reaching out to the Member for Châteauguay and Chair of the Committee on Citizen Relations, MarieChantal Chassé, and the Member for La Prairie, the Minister Responsible for Government Administration, Chair of the Treasury Board, and the Minister Responsible for the Montérégie Region, Christian Dubé.

The new boulevard will be paved with compacted rolled concrete and have four lanes to ensure better traffic flow, sustainable development, access to the boulevard on foot and by bicycle by means of a multifunctional path, a stormwater drainage system, landscaping and a revamped city entrance.

For information about the next steps of this project, residents are invited to regularly consult the City’s website (www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca), Facebook page (facebook.com/Châteauguay) and Twitter feed (twitter.com/Chateauguay).
