August, 29 : The Sportplex is Officially Inaugurated

Yesterday, the Régie Sports et loisirs Beau-Château’s Sportplex, in the Châteauguay region, was officially inaugurated. For the occasion, mayors Pierre-Paul Routhier and Bruno Tremblay were accompanied by the Régie’s Board members and elected officials of the cities of Châteauguay and Beauharnois.

A number of other dignitaries attended the cocktail reception held to mark the event, including MarieChantal Chassé, MNA, Brenda Shanahan, MP, and the evening’s guest of honour, Patrice Bernier, an athlete and former Montreal Impact player.

REGIONAL-SCOPE FACILITIES

Established jointly by Châteauguay and Beauharnois, the Régie Beau-Château provides a wider range of municipal services by offering quality sports and recreation facilities for the residents of both municipalities.

The Sportplex, which has been in a running-in period for slightly less than one year, has synthetic turf for indoor soccer that can also be used for other sports. In addition, the complex features an indoor gymnasium with 12 badminton courts and several multipurpose rooms for classes, workshops, meetings and seminars. Children’s parties can also be celebrated there. A 332-meter-long suspended running track has recently been installed around the soccer field.

The facility has already hosted several major events, including the development camp of the Fédération québécoise d’ultimate (FQU), and, more recently, the 2019 NORCECA Women’s Challenge with volleyball teams from Puerto Rico and Mexico, among other places.

A VARIED PROGRAM FOR ALL CATEGORIES OF ATHLETES

In addition to the free practice of many sports, many group classes and physical fitness courses adapted to all levels will begin this fall. Various sports associations and federations will be able to reserve the facilities for their teams’ training and practices.

Youth multisport sessions will also be provided so young people can enjoy playing and learning about no fewer than seven sports in a fun, safe and stimulating environment: hockey, frisbee, gymnastics, athletics (track and field), handball, tennis and football!

INDOOR AQUATIC COMPLEX

The Régie would also like to complete its project to offer more services with the construction of an indoor aquatic complex in order to upgrade the region’s facilities with diversified services 12 months a year. The future building will be directly attached to the Sportplex. A supply and demand study is being conducted and everyone who would like to give their opinion can do so by completing the online survey (only in French) on the websites of the Régie and of the cities of Châteauguay and Beauharnois.

OPEN HOUSE ALL WEEKEND

The inauguration was also the kickoff for the open house held on Friday, August 30 from 6 pm to 9 pm and on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, from 10 am to 4 pm. On those three days, there will be no charge for all free activities and courses so people can try the facilities and discover all of the possibilities offered by the complex.
