Journées de la culture 2019 | Five Great Free Activities in Châteauguay

Tuesday, 10 September, 2019

Châteauguay, September 10, 2019 — Once again, this year, the Ville de Châteauguay is participating in the Journées de la Culture by coordinating activities on September 27 and 28.

New: Free shuttle

On Saturday, September 28, residents can take a free shuttle service to travel to and from all the activities in the schedule. The circuit will be a loop starting from the Raymond-Laberge library (25 Maple Boulevard) at 9:15 am. Since tickets are limited, they must be reserved as soon as possible at the Centre culturel G.-P.-Vanier (15 Maple Blvd.).

Five free stops that are not to be missed

The free shuttle will first stop at the Centre d’hébergement Champlain (210 Salaberry Sud Blvd.). It is an opportunity to talk to artists from the Association d’arts visuels du Grand Châteauguay about their work and their favourite medium used during the Route des arts exhibition. This exhibition, open to everyone, will be held on Friday, September 27 from 7 pm to 9 pm (vernissage), on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, from 9:45 am to 5 pm.

The shuttle will then continue to the Rêveries musicales classical music concert presented by Promotions du Grand Châteauguay together with the Ville de Châteauguay. The event will take place at the Pavillon de l’île (480 D’Youville Blvd.), starting at 11 am. This concert will feature young children, both current and former students of the Marie Harmonie school, and their teachers, on the piano or the violin.

The next stop will be the “Châteauguay … What a Story! photo contest. There will be prizes for both amateurs and professionals at the ceremony to announce the winners and unveil their photos, between 1 pm and 2:45 pm. The activity will be held in cooperation between the Ville de Châteauguay and Maison LePailleur at Espace Gravel, adjacent to the historic house (54 Salaberry Sud Blvd.).

The Salon des artisans is a craft fair showcasing the ingenuity of our talented craftspeople. On the third and last Saturday, Événements Patia will organize a special edition of the Salon des artisans under the Agora (75 Maple Blvd.) between 10 am and 4 pm.

The day will wind up with the screening of Angèle en quatre temps (in French) at 4 pm, in the Jean-Pierre Houde room (15 Maple Blvd.). This documentary, dedicated to renowned Canadian violinist Angèle Dubeau, gives a voice to this talented musician and her close collaborators. It spotlights a unique artist who pushes the boundaries of classical music.

Journées de la Culture

Initiated and coordinated by Culture pour tous, the Journées de la culture are three days of free activities open to everyone that promote greater public access to arts and culture. As proclaimed by the National Assembly, the event takes place every year across Quebec on the last Friday of September and the two following days.
