COVID-19: Partial Reopening by Appointment of Various Municipal Services

Thursday, 28 May, 2020

Châteauguay, May 28, 2020 – Ville de Châteauguay is preparing to partially reopen its administrative offices by appointment, as of Monday, June 1, during normal business hours (from Monday to Thursday, from 8:30 am to 12 noon and from 1:15 pm to 5 pm and on Friday from 8:30 am to 12 noon).

However, the City would like to limit physical presence and avoid having too many persons at once in its buildings. Consequently, everyone who would like to come in person must make an appointment in advance with the desired service. Only one person may come to the appointment. You can reach the various departments by calling 450 698-3000. Calls will be transferred to the personnel concerned who are either working on site or teleworking.

The offices affected by the reopening are city hall, the municipal court and the Public Works building. You can also schedule an appointment at the Centre culturel Georges-P.-Vanier by calling 450 698-3100 from Monday to Friday, between noon and 6 pm. The wearing of a face covering is mandatory for the appointment.

The Bibliothèque Raymond-Laberge will remain closed until further notice. However, the no-contact book lending service started on Monday, May 25, so it is now possible to borrow and return documents. You will find more information on the procedure to follow at ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en/coronavirus, in the “Bibliothèque Raymond-Laberge” section.

Sanitary measures
Many safety measures have been established to limit the risks of propagating the COVID-19 virus, including:

• Limit of one person at a time in city hall (the places to wait are indicated outside);
• Sink outdoors for hand washing and a liquid hand sanitizer station;
• Wearing of a face covering is mandatory.

If you have any symptoms such as a fever, cough, difficulty breathing or a sudden loss of smell without nasal congestion, with or without the loss of taste, please do not come for your appointment. Kindly postpone your visit or contact us by telephone or by email instead.

Exceptional opening of splash pads
Given the forecast of extreme heat for the next few days, the Direction de la santé publique de la Montérégie has authorized municipalities to open splash pads to allow people to cool off. The City’s splash pads will be open starting on Thursday, May 28, except for Philippe-Bonneau park which cannot be used because of a breakage affecting the water supply.

Physical distancing measures must be complied with. This is a temporary measure intended to protect children from the harmful effects of heat, among other things. The playground equipment for children in parks will remain off limits.

For the latest information on the COVID-19 situation in the municipality and the gradual reopening of various services and sports trays, visit: ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en/coronavirus.
