Opening of the Aide-logement housing helpline from the MRC de Roussillon

Saint-Constant, June 12 2020 – The Roussillon Regional County Municipality (MRC), in partnership with the Office municipal d’habitation de Châteauguay and various local stakeholders, is opening the Aide-logement housing helpline to support Roussillon residents concerned by housing issues that have been exacerbated this year by the Covid-19 situation.

For many years, the MRC de Roussillon has seen a housing shortage for families and individuals, and particularly for those who are the most economically or socially vulnerable. This year, the housing situation has worsened with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Financial issues for the payment of rent by some lessees and the difficulty for owners to pay their mortgage;
  • Great shortage of housing units available: some people may be without housing in an emergency housing situation;
  • Problems related to the storage of property and furniture for people who have found a temporary housing solution;
  • Impossibility for some people to move into their new housing on the expected date because of delays in the delivery of new constructions.

For its 11 municipalities, the MRC de Roussillon has set up a single centralized helpline to inform, help, support and find solutions using local resources.

Ligne Aide-logement
450 638-1221, ext. 2020
Until June 20, from Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
From June 21 to July 10, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
On June 29 and 30 and on July 1 and 2, available 24 hours
From July 11 to 17, from 9 am to 7 pm
It is possible to leave a message outside these hours.

Residents who have housing problems and needs are encouraged to call 450 638-1221, ext. 2020. They will receive information on the various government programs and resources available in the region, and they can be put in contact with organizations, if necessary.

The helpline can also be used by property owners, municipalities and anyone who wants to provide services and solutions (storage spaces, rental properties available, etc.) to support people in difficulty. This initiative aims to make concerted efforts with community stakeholders in order to act effectively and do the necessary follow-ups with people in need.

Over the past few weeks, the MRC has also formed a working group with representatives of organizations concerned by the housing issue, as well as local representatives of municipalities, public health authorities and MNAs. This is an opportunity to develop potential solutions that can be offered through the ligne aide-logement (housing helpline).
