Certificate of Occupation (Business Permit)
Before leasing, buying or occupying a commercial or industrial space, or before operating a commercial business in your home, first make sure that municipal and zoning by-laws permit the intended use in the area.
You will need to obtain a certificate of occupation. This document tells you which uses or activities are permitted under the zoning by-laws in force on the date of issue.
Complete the Application for Business Permit (certificate of occupation) and attach the following documentation:
- Copy of lease;
- Power of attorney if the applicant is not the owner (mandatory).
If your business moves, undergoes a change of administration or closes, you must terminate your business licence (certificate of occupancy).
To do this, you must complete the Certificate of Occupancy Termination Request form.
