A permit is required to install any swimming pool.

Portable and inflatable pools

A permit is required only for the initial installation.

  1. Complete the swimming pool installation permit application form (PDF).
  2. Draw the site plan of the pool and its accessories. This document must:
    • show the intended location of your pool and its accessories on your property;
    • indicate the distances of your pool from the property lines and from other buildings and structures.

This plan can be drawn by hand from a copy of your certificate of location.

  1. Bring all required documents to the Division inspection et permis, at City Hall, where your application will be processed.

In-ground and semi-inground pools 



30 business days : 

  • required documentation must be complete;
  • project submitted must be in compliance with the by-laws.

The construction work must be:

  • started within 6 months of the permit being issued. If the work has not been started within this period, a new permit application must be made.
  • completed within 12 months following the issuance of the permit.

Different by-laws apply to the various types of pools – in-ground, above-ground, portable and inflatable – including:

  • location of the pool and the distances that must be maintained;
  • operating appliances (filtration system, heat pump);
  • accessories (slide, diving board, ladder);
  • safety and control of access;
  • cleanliness, lighting and filling.
