Sheds

A permit is required to build or install a shed or garden shed.

APPLICATION
  1. Complete the application form for a permit to build an accessory building (PDF).
  2. Draw the site plan of the shed. This document must:
    • show the intended location of the shed on your property;
    • indicate the distances from the shed to the property lines and to other buildings and structures.

This plan can be drawn by hand from a copy of your certificate of location.

  1. Bring all required documents to the Division inspection et permis, at City Hall, where your application will be processed.

Conditions of issuance

In order for a shed to be built on a lot, a residence must already be located there.

COST OF PERMIT

$25

APPLICATION PROCESSING TIME

Same day, if:

  • required documentation is complete;
  • project submitted is in compliance with the by-laws.
PERMIT VALIDITY PERIOD

The construction work must be:

  • started within 6 months of the permit being issued. If the work has not been started within this period, a new permit application must be made.
  • completed within 12 months following the issuance of the permit.
COMPLIANCE WITH BY-LAWS

Different by-laws apply to sheds depending on the number of residential units in the dwelling:

  • dwelling with 3 units or fewer;
  • dwelling with 4 units or more.
