No-contact book-lending service by means of an appointment

To borrow library documents in these exceptional times until the official reopening of the library, you can reserve documents using our online catalogue. We will then give you an appointment for the no-contact pickup of your documents when your order is ready.

Steps to follow:

1. Ensure that you have a valid library card.

You need to have a valid library card and your personal identification number (PIN).

If you don’t have a library card, your card is expired or you have forgotten your PIN, contact us by phone at 450 698-3080 or by email at biblio@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca.

2. Reserve your documents.

To reserve documents, use our online catalogue. You will need your library card and your PIN.

If you need help, call us at 450 698-3080.

Even if you do not have access to the online catalogue, you can reserve documents that interest you:

You can reserve both available and borrowed documents. However, if you reserve a document that has already been borrowed, the time for obtaining it may be longer than normal since users can keep borrowed documents at home until the library reopens.

3. Wait for the confirmation call.

A member of the library staff will contact you to make an appointment for you to pick up your order and explain the procedure.

Documents are set aside for 72 hours in a bag identified by your name before being given to you. Please expect a minimum of 72 hours to prepare your order. The deadlines may be longer depending on the number of requests.

4. Pick up your order at the library.

Go to the library in the time slot assigned to you and pick up your bag.

•  It is important to abide by the time slot assigned for your pickup. If you cannot go to the library at the time assigned to you, please inform us as soon as possible.

•  Orders not picked up will be put back on the shelves the next day.

•  You must show your library card (or identity document) to the library staff. If someone will pick up the order for you, please specify it when you make an appointment.

•  The pickup will be in the parking lot in front of the library. Posters will indicate which parking spaces to use.

•  If you come by car, please open the trunk of your car before the employee arrives and close it again after the employee leaves making sure that you maintain two metres of physical distancing.

•  No contact will be permitted with library employees and access to the inside of the building is prohibited.

•  If you would like to return documents, you must place them in a book drop (without a bag).

5. Put your order in quarantine.

When you get home, we recommend that you put your bag in quarantine for at least 48 hours. Happy reading!

Frequently asked questions

1. How long is the loan for?

The length of the loan is six weeks with a renewal option depending on whether the library reopens or not.

2. How many documents can I reserve?

The reservation limit has been increased to 20 documents for adults and 20 documents for young people.

3. Can I return documents?

Yes, you can return documents you have borrowed by means of the book drops. Do not put your documents in a bag before placing them in a chute. A 72-hour period is necessary for returns to be entered in your file because documents returned in the chute are subject to a 72-hour quarantine.

If you cannot travel, you can also keep the documents at home until the library reopens, without penalty.
