La Sagouine, by Antonine Maillet, starring Lorraine Côté accompanied by Stéphane Caron.

Text: Antonine Maillet
Director: Patrick Ouellet
Text editing: Geneviève Tremblay

La Sagouine is undoubtedly the most famous creature born from Antonine Maillet’s imagination. But La Sagouine is not a dream; she is a being of flesh and blood, a poor woman born near the sea, who cannot read or write and spends her days scrubbing floors. This Acadian, never short of words, looks at humanity with a view worthy of La Bruyère in a rich language. She is the voice of the people, their wisdom, their soul.
