Conversion of intergenerational dwellings into two-family dwellings (duplexes)

Since 2004, Ville de Châteauguay has permitted additional housing units to be added to existing single-family dwellings to transform them into intergenerational housing, thereby allowing persons who are closely related to the occupant of the main building to occupy the additional housing unit. Multigenerational homes

The family is expanding

Co-housing and multigenerational living arrangements are becoming more popular with the ageing of population. The City has adopted municipal laws to accommodate for this new reality of life, but with the condition that these houses look like a single-family dwelling. Indeed, the particularity of this type of house is that two housing units are built into one dwelling place.

Where are they allowed?

In all sectors where single-familly housing is authorized .
